The Second Annual Nashville Wine Auction Somm Showdown

Watch six local Sommelier contestants show off their skills as they work their way through a series of challenges to see who will be crowned Somm Showdown Champion!  And even better, you’ll get to play along!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 16, 2025, when Nashville Wine Auction hosts the Second Annual Somm Showdown, this time at the soccer stadium, Geodis Park. Don’t worry, it is off season for the Nashville Soccer Club… But the competition in the stadium will be FIERCE! There will be fabulous wine! There will be delicious food! There will be great chefs and accomplished judges!

Watch six local Sommelier contestants show off their skills as they work their way through a series of challenges to see who will be crowned Somm Showdown Champion! And even better, you’ll get to play along! Last year’s event was an audience favorite as the competition wound down to an exciting conclusion where Alex Burch was crowned champion. Alex will be moving to Judges’ Table this year with the new round of competitors.

Here’s how it’ll go down:

Round One

Six Sommelier contestants will demonstrate their wine and food pairing skills by working with a chef to pair a small plate with their wine. Somms will be able to showcase the wine of their choice, so you can expect to learn about new and exciting bottles! Judges and audience members will taste the six paired combinations and vote on the best pairing, with the four highest scorers moving on to the next round.

Round Two

Four Sommelier competitors will dazzle the audience and judges with their wine knowledge in a Jeopardy-style wine quiz. The two highest scoring contestants move on to the final round of the competition.

Round Three

The two remaining contenders will do what Somms do and blind taste two wines. They’ll analyze, describe, and identify the wines by grape, country, region, and vintage. Audience members will also blind taste the wines with them and be able to see how their skills stack up to the professionals. The Sommelier who gets the most details correct, wins!

Moderating the event will be Jonathan Ross, Master Sommelier, Wine Importer, and the current Wine Director for the Twelve-Thirty Club, and Calvin Webster, DipWSET and Wine Consultant.

At time of printing, Somms contestants, Chefs, and Judges have not yet been selected. Sommeliers will be selected through an application and blind screening process. Contestants will be required to have three years of experience in the wine industry. The winner and runner-up will each take home a cash prize to fund continuing wine education. No contestant will leave empty-handed.

This exciting event will take place at the Goal Post Club located inside Geodis Park celebrating Nashville’s sporting heritage against the backdrop of the city’s newest sporting venue. Spend the afternoon testing your knowledge, honing your skills, and having a blast, all while supporting the folks who help Nashville Wine Auction unite the wine community to fund the fight against cancer!
