The Exclusively Grand Cru Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Dinner

DRC. The acronym that will catch the attention of everyone in a room. Whether you’re new to the vinous world or a longtime devotée, you know Domaine de la Romanée-Conti means something. It is the most hallowed name in Burgundian wine, and quite possibly the entire vinous world.

DRC produces great wines exclusively from grand cru vineyard holdings (no other Burgundian Domaine can claim to only produce wine from grand cru sites). From the distinctive lineup of Échezeaux, Grands-Échezeaux, Romanée-St.-Vivant, Richebourg, and its fully owned monopoles, La Tâche wine and Romanée-Conti wine – yes, these are the rarest and most highly sought-after wines in the world.

The Domaine produces an average of 6,000–8,000 cases across all its crus each year. They could make more, but they don’t. There is such attention to every detail that their vineyards are farmed by hoof: utilizing the gentle action of horse’s hooves, rather than heavy machinery, so that the soils are not compacted by weight.

Now, let’s get to the goods. Cynthia and Elliot Himmelfarb have donated twelve gorgeous bottles of DRC and will host a monumental dinner in their lovely, historic Brentwood home on a mutually agreeable date.

A “few” decades ago Cynthia and Elliot wandered their way through Burgundy on a trip that they acquired at l’Eté du Vin, and barrel-tasted wines at DRC. As Cynthia said, “we bought as much of it as we possibly could because it was actually affordable in those days!”

Cynthia serves as the current Bailli des Nashville in La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs®, the oldest and largest food and wine society in the world. Cynthia helped organize the formation of the Nashville chapter of the Confrèrie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and currently serves as the Chambellan (aka she is a big deal).

The lineup of wines hails from coveted 80s and 90s vintages in the six historic DRC vineyards. The food pairings by Chef Joe Townsend will be exquisite (it’s DRC after all!). A perennial Nashville Wine Auction favorite, Chef Joe brings over 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry and as a private chef. After returning to Nashville in 2009, Chef Joe held positions in Nashville restaurants such as 360 Bistro, Merchants, Moto, and the much-missed F. Scott’s. He currently works as a private chef.

Do yourself a favor, buy this dinner, and change your life.
