Lot Details
Any terroir nerds in the room? Here’s a nerdy fact for you: Lithology is the study of rocks in a specific area. Any guesses as to what Lithology Wine from New Frontier Wine Company is known for? If you guessed rocks and terroir, you are absolutely right.
Lithology Estate crafts wines from select growing areas, growing areas that come from some of the most important, foundational names in Napa’s history. It was once part of the 1841 Rancho Carne Humana Spanish land grant, later given as a dowry that would eventually become the Charles Krug Winery. Gradually, the Rancho was sold and divided into smaller lots. In 1860, a 13-acre parcel was sold to John Howell, for whom, you guessed it, Howell Mountain was named. The property until recently served as the Founders Room for Bill Harlan’s wine portfolio and produced the first vintages of The Napa Valley Reserve. When Alejandro Bulgheroni purchased the property in 2014, all three of their inaugural releases received immense praise. Even more impressive, every new release garners much (and we do mean MUCH) critical acclaim.
Perhaps the most famous of the Beckstoffer vineyards and certainly one of the most celebrated in Napa’s history, To-Kalon is hailed as a “Grand Cru” vineyard. And with the Lithology 2019 vintage, the natural breadth and resonance of To-Kalon are very much on display. Lithology knows how to work its terroir. This is your opportunity to take home a mini-piano of this incredible vintage.
Darker cassis, violets, redcurrants, new leather, and flowery incense notes all emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Lithology Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, a quintessential expression of this Grand Cru terroir in Oakville. With full-bodied richness, a deep, opulent mouthfeel, and incredible purity, it has the rare sense of power without weight that’s the hallmark of this incredible terroir.
