June 8, Nashville, TN- On Friday, June 1, the Nashville Wine Auction hosted a luncheon at the American Cancer Society’s Memorial Foundation Hope Lodge to recognize the family of Lucinda Yates Husband (Cindy) and present a room named in her memory. The luncheon and tour of the facilities showed the Yates/Husband family, along with Nashville Wine Auction board members how the money raised through l’Eté du Vin goes to good use at the Lodge.
American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their families a free home away from home during cancer treatment. When cancer strikes, money is the last thing patients and their families want to worry about; however, for many, that is a great concern. The Hope Lodge helps eliminate some of these costs and worries by providing housing, help and hope to these patients struggling with cancer. Hope Lodge does everything it can to meet the needs of its guests through available resources such as information on cancer, how to fight the disease, resource library with computers and books, exercise facilities, and a free shuttle that transports patients to and from treatment centers.

Diane Madison-Jammal, Nashville Wine Auction board President, welcomed the guests and introduced her fellow board members. Pam Taylor, Vice President of the board, explained to the guests that because of Nashville Wine Auction’s role in the capitol campaign, the second floor at the Hope Lodge is named for l’Eté du Vin. Many individuals such as Mac Husband have contributed to the efforts to support Nashville Wine Auction over the past 33 years. This support helped build the Hope Lodge.
Elaine Gordon, Vice President for Priority Initiatives of the American Cancer Society Mid-South Division, spoke on behalf of the Hope Lodge and introduced Anne Wheeler, resident at the Lodge, for testimony to her experiences during her stay. Anne and her daughter, Ruth Ann Wheeler, couldn’t say enough good things about Hope Lodge. They explained how the residents and facilitators were like family and how it was nice to be in a place where they could connect with other cancer patients, but also have the option of privacy in their own rooms. They spoke about the friendliness of both the other residents and volunteers and expressed their appreciation.
Guests of the event had the opportunity to tour the facilities and see for themselves the room in Cindy’s honor. The Yates/Husband family’s hearts were full as they spent the day remembering their beloved Cindy. Nashville Wine Auction will further its efforts to raise money for the cause on July 21, 2012 at the 33rd annual l’Eté du Vin.
