LOT 114 | You Be the Judge at The Judgment of Napa
Featured on live auction at Approximately 7:30 pm
On March 3, 2021, YOU are invited to make history and judge Napa's finest wines against the world in a blind tasting at the Judgment of Napa. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of this lot will go directly to Napa Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund, so bid accordingly!
This exceptional event is a tribute to two key individuals: Steven Spurrier, organizer of the sensational 1976 Judgment of Paris; and George Taber, the journalist who covered the event that unmistakably elevated the profile of California wines overnight.
On the 24th of May in 1976, nine judges chose California wines above the top wines of France and the rest is history. The Judgment of Napa will remind people of the Judgment of Paris and also bring it up to date. I should know… I was there. -Steven Spurrier
Master of Wine, Peter Marks has been combing the world’s wine regions and perfecting the wine line-up. You’ll taste 20 rare wines (10 whites and 10 reds) alongside Wine Legend, Steven Spurrier. Andrea Immer Robinson, world-renowned Master Sommelier, serves as the event’s MC and guest judge. This exclusive blind tasting takes place at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley, and is followed by a vintner dinner hosted by either Favia, Penfolds, or Darioush wineries.
The following day, immerse yourself in both the Rolls Royce Experience and Davidoff cigar Grand Cru Sip and Smoke (reservations required). Then you’ll head to a Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars where you’ll join Winemaker Marcus Notaro and special guest, Steven Spurrier, for a seated tasting of six vintages of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon—the Cabernet that won the 1976 Paris. Notaro will personally select one vintage from each decade and lead a tasting of the wine from this history-making vineyard.
Win this lot and enjoy historic experiences while rubbing elbows with wine industry icons (including Andy Erickson, Tim Mondavi, Violet Grgich, Andy Beckstoffer, Jean-Charles Boisset, Aaron Pott, Angelina Mondavi, Mark Beringer, Joanne DePuy, Tor Kenward, and Darioush Khaledi… To name a few!) in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Re-create History on the 45th Anniversary of Judgment of Paris except this time… YOU decide!
